Improved security system at Washington airports
The TSA - Transportation Security Administration has upgraded the security checkpoints at all three major airports in the Washington D.C. area.
Washington Dulles International, Baltimore/Washington International and Reagan National have all been fitted with Advanced Threat Identification X-ray (aTiX) systems.
This allows TSA officers greater insight when screening carry-on baggage by generating multiple views of bags in one shot.
The easily upgraded software uses algorithms to detect harmful items and has already proved successful in airports in the United Kingdom.
Stephen Phipson, Group Managing Director of Smiths Detection, said: “aTiX technology represents a major advance in checkpoint security, bringing greater threat detection accuracy while potentially reducing wait times for passengers.”
Mark Laustra, Vice-President of Homeland Security for Smiths Detection, added: “We are proud to be protecting the nation’s capital with our innovative security checkpoint system.”
