Sony-Vaio : do you trust ?

Sony Vaio VGN-BX96PS2I bought Sony Vaio notebook last May, which is japanese keyboard. And it is Windows XP Home Edition with SP2-japanese. I was not sure about what I was doing, but I wanted to creat Discovery Disc from the system itself as I have read about how to creat it from the manual in Japanese language.

I followed the step which is shown in the Recovery Disc creator Wizard; I need to use 2 DVD of 4.7Gb. I waited for 1 Disc to get completed, and I inserted the 2nd Disc, but it was like it will take 7 hours to complete. So, I decided to do it “later” as I was so sleepy. And I turned off the computer while the Wizard was still running. I got a pop up window in japanese language warning me not to close the wizard or whatever, I neglected it and shut down the Windows and went to bed. And when I try to start the windows the next morning, it read as “No Windows Installed!” I went mad and try to restart all over, but I still get the same message! I give up starting windows and decided to install a new Windows which is Windows XP Professional with no Service Pack 1 or 2. Well, after taking a deep breath, I started installing it. Without much knowing about the computer itself, I follow the installation Wizard.

I did everything correctly, I also created 2 partitions - Drive C and E repectively. The wizard asked me whether to delete the previous files, I clicked Ok to delete old installation. Well, I finished formatted and waited the installation to get finished. But when I start the new windows, which is English, I hear no sound, no Wi-Fi connection, and many other Drivers… I went mad again lol…. I went to browse the Sony USA site, but the model there were not matching to the model of my notebook. And I tried Sony Japan site, but they have no drivers to be installed at free of cost. I am now in real mad hahaha….my computer has no sound,,, I wanna edit some DVD or VCD, but without sound, those Wizards will not open.

I finally found out that I need to order the Recovery Disc online from Sony Japan site! It’s not easy to do it again…I need to have Sony ID or Vaio Customer Id lol… What do you think ? Do you learn something from what I have written here ? Please let me know your opinion by commenting.

  1. The poorest customer support I’ve ever heard. I thought Sony Vaio is one of the best laptops/notebooks around but the support you are going through is disappointing…..

  2. [...] In my previous blog, I wrote the topic on Do you trust Sony-Vaio? In this entry, I will discuss about changing the OS. [...]
